This simple testimonial to the power of the nature center says more than I ever could about how backward the valuation of Jackson Park that is happening right now truly is. I am reprinting it with permission of the author:

Eight years ago, when my first wife was dying of breast cancer, I found a little book called “Chicago’s 50 best places to find peace and quiet.” The little natural dunes area behind the South Shore Cultural Center was listed there. I wasn’t able to go until after Angela died. But I have gone there often since, and I always find it a magical place. I would be very unhappy to see it sacrificed for a golf course.
